Palms Pressing Meditation – Part 2

Palms pressing meditation is done after concentration meditation, and is an exercise done to help push ki to the hands and improve the mind, spirit, body connection. It is a basic exercise that helps prevent distractions and allows one to focus their energy on being present in the moment while training the mind and ki to move within the body as directed.

Body Position

  • Seated posture
  • Back straight, relax core
  • Head straight and eyes looking forward
  • Eyes can be closed or open
  • Shoulders relaxed
  • Legs crossed with left on top of right in a quarter lotus position
  • Palms facing each other in lap about 3 fingers width below the navel
    • Right hand resting with palm up
    • Left hand facing palm down about 1 inch from each other

Practice

  • Breathe in slowly drawing the breath deep into the lower abdomen
  • Inhale for approximately 8 seconds
  • Exhale out for another 8 seconds
  • While exhaling, push up from the lower abdomen, down the arms and to both hands
  • Hands slowly separate as warmth is felt between the palms
  • Be sure not to separate the hands too far
  • It is acceptable to hold/pause for 8 seconds after the inhalation
  • Repeat for at least 8 cycles
